How they met:
I actually met Yomi and popular club in Lubbock, TX - where we were both attending Texas Tech University. Yomi had just arrived with his friends and I passed by him and said "Hey, I like your vest." Yomi's reply was "Thanks, would you like to dance?" and I agreed. We went to the dance floor but we weren't really dancing, we were talking. After we finished talking, he asked for my number and I said no, I told him that I will take his number and I would call him. So he put his details on my phone and kept making me promise that I would call him the next day.
After I left the club with my friends, I went home thinking of the guy I just met. The next day, I did not call him, I looked up his name on Facebook and sent him a message instead. According to Yomi, he waited to hear from me all day and as soon as he got a Facebook notification in his email, he was yelling in excitement. He ran to his roommates bedroom (who was also at the club that night) and told him he finally heard from the girl he met.
Yomi thought he was smooth so he tried to impress me by responding to the Facebook message in Spanish. (I guess since I am Hispanic, he assumed I would be thrilled with his Spanish skills. However, I was not impressed and told him I speak English just fine). I ended up calling him and two days later, he took me out on our first date. Almost four years later, we are still together. It has been the most exciting and rewarding part of my life, meeting him, getting to know him, and now spending forever with him. We are both very blessed.
The Proposal
It was a day before Mother's Day and Toni's older sister (Janice) invited her and Yomi over for a BBQ. Toni suspected that a proposal was about to take place because even though they were bickering earlier that morning, Yomi called her and said "This is a very important day for me so please don't ruin it".
As the get-together went on, Janice suggested they all play a game of charades - a word guessing game where one player acts out a word or phrase. Finally it was Yomi's turn to take the stage...
Yomi nervously got up and asked if he could use props. Toni shouted "no, you can't use props... that's against the rules". Yomi, ignored her and opened a toy chest where he hid the ring. As soon as he held the box in his hand and began walking toward her, she covered her face in embarrassment.
He got on one knee and asked "Will you marry me?"
.... she said yes.
